Who we are
Prepser ("we", "us") is an iPhone app for Evangelical pastors that records sermons and turns them into notes and ministry artifacts. This policy covers the Prepser app and the website prepser.com. Questions go to support@prepser.com.
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never show ads.
- We never use your recordings, transcripts or notes to train AI models — ours or anyone else's.
- We never read your sermons.
- We never identify or authenticate anyone by their voice. Audio is used only to produce a transcript.
What we collect
When you use Prepser, we collect:
- Account details — an anonymous identifier created on your device and, if you use Sign in with Apple, your Apple ID, email and name. Your push token, if you allow notifications.
- Your content — sermon recordings, Bible page scans, imported files, transcripts, notes, preps, calendar events, your chat with the assistant, and any feedback you send.
- Your setup — the denomination and preaching approach you pick in onboarding, so prompts match your tradition.
- Purchase status — from Apple: what you subscribed to and until when. We never see your card.
- Basic diagnostics — app and iOS version, device model and a device identifier, IP address, which features you use, and crash reports. Collected by our own servers; there are no third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
- Website — Google Analytics on prepser.com: cookies, pages viewed, referrer.
Recordings may include other people's voices — the congregation, testimonies, children. We process them only as part of your recording and never identify or authenticate anyone by voice. Getting consent to record where the law requires it is your responsibility.
Permissions we ask for
- Microphone — "Prepser needs the microphone to record your sermon so it can be transcribed and turned into notes."
- Camera — "Prepser uses the camera to scan Bible pages and turn them into study notes."
- Speech recognition (on device) — "Prepser uses speech recognition to turn your recordings into searchable text notes."
- Calendar — "Prepser reads your calendar so you can import church events instead of retyping them."
- Files — only the audio, PDF, DOCX or image files you pick.
Each permission can be revoked any time in iOS Settings.
How we use it
To provide the service: transcription, generation, chat, and keeping your notes in sync across devices. To run your subscription. To send you a "notes are ready" push. To diagnose crashes. To improve the product.
Service providers
A small number of companies process data on our behalf:
- OpenAI — generates your artifacts and chat replies, and reads Bible scans and PDF pages. Receives your transcript, text and images for processing.
- AssemblyAI — transcribes your audio. Receives your recordings.
- Amazon Web Services (us-east-1) — stores your files in a private bucket, runs our server, and keeps database backups.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and subscription notifications, push notifications.
- Cloudflare — DNS and proxy in front of our API and this website. Sees traffic in transit.
They process data only to provide their service to us. None of them use your content to train models.
Where your data lives
In the United States. By using Prepser from outside the US, you agree to your data being transferred to and processed in the US.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Audio moves to cold storage after 90 days but isn't deleted. Database backups are kept for 30 days. The app keeps a local copy of a recording for 24 hours after upload, then removes it.
Your choices and your rights
Delete
Settings → Delete account removes your account, notes, transcripts, artifacts, preps, folders, events, chat, feedback and subscription records. Your files are deleted from storage shortly after.
Access, correct, export
Email support@prepser.com. We'll send you a machine-readable copy of your data or fix your profile.
Permissions
Revoke microphone, camera, calendar or notification access any time in iOS Settings.
If you're outside the United States
We process your data to perform our contract with you — providing the service you signed up for — and, for diagnostics and security, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping Prepser working and safe. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your data, and to receive a portable copy of it. Email support@prepser.com and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Security
Everything between the app, our servers and our storage travels over HTTPS (TLS). Your recordings, scans and files live in a private storage bucket, encrypted at rest, and are fetched only through short-lived signed links. Sign-in tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain.
Notes, transcripts and calendar events are stored in a PostgreSQL database that is not reachable from the internet — only our own server can connect to it. Credentials and API keys live in server configuration, never in source code, and are redacted from logs. Server activity is logged so we can spot and respond to problems.
Calendar data
When you import church events from Apple Calendar, we store only the event title, start and end time, location and notes. We don't read or store attendee lists or email addresses. Calendar events are deleted together with your account, or one at a time in the app.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. For material changes we'll tell you in the app.
